Authorial Intrusion - Amanda Marrone

Welcome to Authorial Intrusion! To read any of the previous interviews, just click on the tag “authorial intrusion” on the left side of the page.

For those just tuning in, here’s the history behind these posts:

I love reading about the Publishing Journeys of my favorite writers.

I love the long, soul-searching interviews that reveal every obstacle and triumph: the author whose agent made her do three revisions before signing her … the author who gets up at 4:30 a.m. to write, because it’s the only time she has to herself … the critically acclaimed author who spent nine years trying to get published … I never tire of this stuff!

Long, luxurious interviews aside, don’t you sometimes find yourself wondering: “But do you like Thai or Chinese food better?”

Reader, I asked them.

I assembled a grab-bag full of random questions and emailed them to some of my favorite writers.

They answered!

And now, without further ado, please welcome Amanda Marrone.

Amanda Marrone - amanda_marrone - is the author of the YA novel Uninvited, about a girl whose dead boyfriend returns to her window each night, begging her to let him in. How very Wuthering Heights! In this case, Michael is a vampire, and all he needs is Jordan’s invitation to enter her room. Then they can be together forever. Jordan’s life is just miserable enough that the idea of spending eternity with the undead seems almost attractive. This is a fun read with a thrilling ending. I would put the age level at 14 and above, for some mature sexuality.

Amanda’s second paranormal YA, Revealers, is due out in the fall. A teaser chapter is included after Uninvited, and it definitely piqued my interest!

What are you reading right now?
I was reading Halfway to the Grave, but I can't find it and it's driving me nuts because it was so good. Until I find it I'm reading Stuck in the 70's.

What's the last song you listened to?
The last song on the Wicked soundtrack. I'm a musical junkie.

Thai food or Chinese?
Chinese.

Where did you go on your first date?
To see Sophie's Choice. I cried my eyes out and looked terrible walking out of the movie theatre. Luckily my date didn't seem to mind my eyes were puffy and my face blotchy!

Beach or mountains?
Hmmm--I think I'll take the mountains--as long as it's not black fly season and the mosquitoes aren't out.

Do you speak a foreign language?
I barely scraped by in High School French class. My teacher was rather bitter when I told her I was spending the summer in France as an Au Pair as I was one of her worst students!

Tattoos?
One tattoo--a circle of Wufu bats--which are the five Chinese symbols of happiness.

If someone made you sing karaoke – you couldn't refuse! – what would you sing?
Defying Gravity from Wicked. I'm not saying it would be good though.

Who do you wish you could meet, living or dead?
Off the top of my head, Ray Bradbury.

Advice for writers in 5 words or less.
Never stop believing!

Thanks for indulging our curiosity, Amanda!
