I'm Thankful I Can Play the Piano

This is "Deux Arabesques," by Debussy. (Just one page of it.) Um, this is my version of the piece. I believe that most pianists play it about three times faster. Go figure.

I was nervous, and the sound quality is sketchy ... but I really am thankful I learned to play the piano when I was young. It feels so good now.

P.S. rusalkatrix once suggested I play for a post, and I was terrified at the thought. I find it's good to let things boil down to a mere reduction of terror, so that they are achievable.

More, more! Lisa, that's beautiful. And I think it's just the right tempo too. I'm going to listen to it again...ah...

*more blushing*

Thank you.

But I dunno about playing more.

It took me, like, five tries to get a rendition that I wasn't totally embarrassed about.

That was soo pretty! I'm seriously jealous. My parents wouldn't spring for a piano, let alone lessons. I tried to learn as an adult, but at this point it's kinda like learning to fly a space shuttle. Besides, you have to move each hand independently, PLUS THINK at the same time--and I can't multi-task.

I learned on an old upright piano - I'm really proud of my mom for making sure my sister and I had lessons, even when she was a single mom who didn't have a lot of money.

I don't know whether I would be able to learn to play piano as an adult, either. Some things get more firmly implanted in childhood.

Lovely! I really enjoyed that. I agree with everyone that you should do it again.

I love playing the piano too, although I don't do it often enough. Brahms and Rachmaninoff are two of my favs...they take practice, though, and I tend not to have time for that.

Fun hearing you!

So beautiful it brought tears to my eyes. What a gift! Thank you so much for sharing.

We are planning to have Kate take piano lessons. I mean, if she wants to. Because she has long fingers.

Thank you!

We've told our son simply, "Everyone in our family has to learn an instrument."

He started with piano, but now he's taking guitar. He doesn't practice unless we bug him ... but at least he's getting the foundation of musical skills.
