Order Up!

I worked as a waitress throughout college.

I waited on my husband, as a matter of fact. That was how we met.

At the time, he probably thought, “Yeeaahhh. The waitress with the long legs … gonna go see her again. Yeaahhh … gonna get her number. Gonna date her brains out for a few weeks, then move on.”

The poor man had no idea he would be shackled to me for all eternity.

I digress.

During my waitress days, we used to yell, “Coming through! Lady with a baby!” as we barged through the kitchen, meaning, “Get out of my way.”

People: I’m coming through! Lady with a book baby!

I’m actually doing this.

I’m birthing a book.

I’ve done it before. I have a completed middle-grade mermaid book (lying limply in a drawer) and a completed YA book (still bright with hopes).

But I’ve never powered through the writing process like this. Shoved stuff out of the way in order to write. Not just tangible stuff, like piles of filing and laundry and mail … but intangible stuff like lazing around in front of the TV and gardening chores.

Thank you, jbknowles.

I would have finished the WIP at some point. But your challenge means that I will finish it by the end of the year. A decent draft, anyway.

Word count for the week: 6260 words. I broke the 50,000 word mark this weekend.

I had my plot epiphany Friday night, which made the writing feel really delicious and frictionless all weekend.

Of course, it’s possible that I am just stoned on carbs and l-tryptophan.
