Authorial Intrusion - Kimberly Derting

I’m delighted to welcome Kimberly Derting to Authorial Intrusion today.

About THE BODY FINDER:

Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world... and the imprints that attach to their killers.

Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift; it mostly just led her to find the dead birds her cat had tired of playing with. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Despite his fierce protectiveness over her, Jay reluctantly agrees to help Violet on her quest to find the murderer—and Violet is unnerved to find herself hoping that Jay's intentions are much more than friendly. But even as she's falling intensely in love, Violet is getting closer and closer to discovering a killer... and becoming his prey herself.

Kimberly lives in the Pacific Northwest, which is the ideal place to be writing anything dark or creepy...a gloomy day can set the perfect mood. She lives with her husband and their three beautiful (and often mouthy) children, who serve as an endless source of inspiration for her writing.

Thai food or Chinese?
Thai, always! I’m a three-star gal; too spicy and I can’t taste it anymore.

Advice for writers in 5 words or less.
Read everything, write often.

What are you reading right now?
Some Kind of Normal by Heidi Willis (it’s not even YA!). All I can say is that I’m in love with this book!!!

Favorite movie snack?
Popcorn with M&Ms mixed in (plain or peanut!)

First car?
1986 Nissan Pulsar, white with red interior (yes, I said red!)

Pick three words to go on your tombstone.
Wife. Mother. Friend.

Early bird or night owl?
Early bird.

Rain or sun?
Sun. Always!

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Red, but only for a crayon, never for a car interior.

What’s your favorite childhood Halloween costume?
loved the angel costume my mom made for me when I was in the second grade. I hated that it was snowing so I had to wear a coat underneath it. Who ever heard of a “puffy” angel???

Thanks for indulging our curiosity, Kim!

I must be hungry, since the notion of eating popcorn with M&Ms and the mention of Thai food is what turned my head!

Kim's book has a terrific cover - it looks fabulous faced-out in the store (as I've seen it)!
