BAM!

When we were students in England, Laureen used to link arms with me as we walked down the street. Especially if it was cold ... but sometimes just because.

Girls don't tend to link arms here in the U.S. unless they're in love, but in England it's commonplace.

It's a custom I miss.

You guys don't know Laureen, but she's one of my best friends, and she's a fantastic cook. My mouth still waters for her sage and butternut squash risotto.

It would be so fun for her to go to New York and meet Emeril! Please vote for her burger recipe - it's the pulled pork one:

I agree, we're a non-touchy culture. I've lived in countries in Europe and in Israel where even the men walk arm in arm. It is nice to see.

I voted for Laureen and although I'm not a fan of pork, the peach relish sounds ab-fab (get it? Ab-fab? It goes with your avatar? One of the best shows ever, btw.)

Fingers crossed for Laureen!

Yes, one of the best shows ever.

I have a feeling you and I would get along beautifully in person!

Thanks for the vote for my peep Reen.

YES!

Oh, sorry, did I just scream that in your ear? Let me try again, quieter.

Yes, I've always thought we'd get along beautifully too!

Wow, how cool is it that she made the semifinals, even! I voted for her. Her burger sounded the best to me anyway.

I agree about girls linking arms and such...I was just watching Ghost World and thinking that nothing made me believe the girls in the movie were good friends so much as the fact that they briefly hold hands in one scene, and then near the end, Scarlett Johanssen's character squeezes the hand of Thora Birch's character. It really conveyed closeness.

Thanks, Jackie.

I haven't seen that movie - I'll have to check it out.

I would walk arm in arm with you in America!
It didn't say "Pulled Pork", but her name was there. I voted, which was difficult...I'm vegetarian. ;)

And you probably don't even eat pork! Thank you!

Au contraire, mon amie. I adore pulled pork sandwiches. And roasts, and chops, and bacon. (This is what happens when you grow up Protestant, then convert.)

When I lived in Germany it was that way too. I miss it. In America there is no touching!

No touching!

It's a shame.
