Wanted: Songs for a Broken Heart

(Not mine!)

I’ve created a playlist for one of my teen characters, but I’m only ONE LISTENER, with one slant of musical taste. Help me broaden my perspective!

Please share your favorite songs of heartbreak – any genre, any decade.

Thanks!

I'm not sure who sang this - "All by myself," which appeared in the first Bridget Jones Diary movie. :)

my first broken heart found me obsessively listening to KD Lang's INGENUE and trying to starve myself to death.

but I was a little overdramatic as a kid.

Oh man, I love that album.

"So It Shall Be" is my favorite, with the swoony violin!

I used to work at Warner Records when she released Ingenue. I used to see her around the office sometimes - she was so cute! I remember she stopped in my office to ask directions. More than once! (My office was kind of on a corner.) *thinks back.* Wait. Could it ...? Could she have been ...?

Nahhh.

Good one! I've got two others by Hank on my list: "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love With You" and "Lovesick Blues." (He's kinda naughty in the latter.)

Someday -- Patsy Cline
L.A. County -- Lyle Lovett (more of a sick kind of revenge song, but catchy!)

Thanks!

iTunes must not have the rights to "Someday." I couldn't find it.

And I've downloaded "L.A. County."

Your subject line scared the sh*t out of me! You did that on purpose, didn't you? :P

Are you looking for sad songs, or F-you songs & pick-me-up songs, too?

I will go & look for some & get back to you.

Both!

Sad songs to cry over, and f-you songs to get back up.

When I had my heart broken seriously for the first time, I made a tape of Guns 'n Roses "Don't you cry" - the whole tape, that song, over and over. I listened to it for days on end.
Then, as an adult, I suddenly heard the song again somewhere and it felt like someone kicked me in the gut. The same emotion came back to me at once. Now it doesn't work that way anymore, thank goodness.

I don't know that one - will have to check it out.

Did you know that Axl Rose is an anagram for oral sex? (I learned that when reading John Green's An Abundance of Katherines.

I'm very slow ... I'd never noticed it before.

Ani Difranco has some of my favourite broken heart songs, "Done Wrong" and "So What" probably being the best.
